Donate to Partners (Redistributing White Wealth Fundraiser)

Welcome!

About This Fundraiser

It is essential that we put our money where our values are, and prioritize the redistribution of white wealth. We invite you to consider making monthly contributions to to Black Lives Matter Cleveland, the Committee of 500 Years of Dignity & Resistance, and the Northeast Ohio Black Health Coalition. Monthly donations can provide long-term funding for these organizations to use, and are easy to set up through PayPal.

We launched this fundraiser in 2018, and continue to drive our members to donate to support these three organizations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you mean by “Redistributing White Wealth?”
It is an invitation to think more deeply on the realities of structural and systemic racism, and how the momentum of over 250+ years of racism created the economic disparities of today. How can we build on individual giving, to intervene on the same level that systemic inequity was created? Donating funds to organizations led by People of Color through monthly donations is just a starting point in redistributing white wealth. Check out the Movement for Black Lives Policy Platform, which details policy initiatives for true economic justice and reparations: https://policy.m4bl.org/

Here are just a few resources on the need to redistribute white wealth:
White families have nearly 10 times the net worth of black families. And the gap is growing.
The Asset Value of Whiteness: Understanding the Racial Wealth Gap

We want to lift up the reality of class, and acknowledge the different financial positions we all find ourselves in. This event does not imply all white people are wealthy — rather, that after centuries of oppression and theft from communities of color, white communities hold a hugely disproportionate amount of the country’s wealth. If you cannot donate at this time, there are countless other ways to get involved in the fight for racial justice.

Why did SURJ NEO choose these three organizations?
We have developed accountability relationships with these three organizations through racial justice organizing efforts in Northeast Ohio. We encourage you to give your money to other organizations led by People of Color, as well, and our goal is to grow the number of organizations that will receive monthly donations from this fund.
